Alan Wake

Alan Wake isn’t going to win any popularity contests, so you hardly feel sorry for him when his world is turnt upside down when is wife is kidknapped whilst on their vaction.

You see Alan Wake is a writer who hasn’t been able to write for two years, so his wife suggests they go on holiday to Bright Falls to help Alan with some inspiration. They end up having an argument and he storms off leaving her in the dark (which she is scared of) and moments later she is gone and he wakes up in a crashed car on the edge of mountain…

The island is spooky, when the sun goes down the Taken come out. They are shadowy human like people that are out to kill Alan. The only way he can stop them is by using light in the form of Torches, Flares and Flashbangs. Don’t try and hold on to your ammo for the next mission because it all gets taken away when you start a new episode. I’m a complete sucker for games like this and when I am being chased down by the Taken I do get a shiver down my spine. Why couldn’t he look for her during the day?

The Game itself is pretty good, though looking for manuscript pages and themos flasks takes the edge off the otherwise brilliant atmosphere, surely it’s more important to look for his wife than the rest of this stuff, I’ve never been a fan of collectables in a game (except for Crackdown) and this does nothing to chnage my views.

I bought the collecters edition of Alan Wake and it’s one of my favouirtes, it’s well thought out and good quality. It’s comes with exclusive In-Game Audio Commentary and hints by Remedy, The Alan Wake Files, a 144 page book that includes a short story written by Alan Wake and compiles the FBI dossiers investigating the events in Bright Falls plus themes, avatar awards, a code for future DLC and a soundtrack too.

I’m hoping for a few more twists and turns in the storyline (I’m on episode 4 of 6) before I reach the end of the game and knowing remedy I don’t think I’ll be disappointed…
